How to compare fishing-charter quotes in Hampton Roads
Put each offer on the same page: the exact trip, everyone aboard, the payment method and charges still to come. That makes a useful comparison out of prices that may otherwise describe very different days.

Start with the same trip brief
Write a few lines before requesting quotes: how many people are coming, preferred dates, departure area, time available and what you hope to do. Include non-fishing guests. Use the same brief for each operator so you are comparing responses to the same request, rather than a short shared outing with a full private day.
Treat the budget as a planning range until the operator confirms the reservation. The directory can help you find published options, but it cannot issue a current quote or settle a fee that an operator has not explained. Leave an unanswered item marked “confirm” instead of filling the gap with an estimate.
What does the advertised amount buy?
Marcia B describes group pricing for six or fewer anglers and passengers. AfishinadoVB has a separate shared product and specifies a base passenger allowance for certain nearshore group trips. E-Fishinsea describes private-boat rates and dock-to-dock durations. Each statement applies to that operator’s described offer.[2] [1] [3]
Record whether the amount is per seat, per party, per boat or still unclear. Only divide a private price among friends once the operator has confirmed the group it covers. If someone drops out, the total may not change; ask who holds the reservation and how the group will handle that possibility.
Which expenses still need an answer?
Use an expense checklist rather than assuming everything is extra or everything is included. Ask about bait and tackle, licensing arrangements, parking, fuel, fish cleaning, gratuity and payment processing. An advertised inclusion belongs beside the exact product. A customary tip and a compulsory charge should not be merged into one unexplained fee.
The published Marcia B and AfishinadoVB pages describe payment additions and mate gratuity separately. E-Fishinsea’s rate page contains conflicting card-fee wording, so this guide does not choose one figure. Ask for the current written total for your payment method.[2] [1] [3]
Avoid comparing a known total with a headline amount that has unresolved extras. When you set a budget in the directory, listings without a comparable published price are excluded. That exclusion means the price is not comparable from the published evidence; it does not mean the operator is necessarily expensive.
Compare time and terms as carefully as price
Record the requested check-in time separately from departure and return. Ask whether travel to the fishing grounds is part of the quoted duration. Then separate the deposit, any card authorization and the balance due. Do not assume a deposit is the entire amount you could owe if you cancel.
Save the guest-cancellation deadline and the operator’s weather-cancellation process. A different date, shorter route or revised duration needs a clear agreement. Our marine forecast and cancellation guide explains the questions to settle before weather becomes a last-minute decision.
Keep a comparison you can actually use
A simple note is enough. Put one operator in each column and use the same headings for all of them. When a response arrives, add the date and the person or published page that answered it. You are building a record of the offer, not a prediction of catches or a guarantee that a quoted departure remains available.
- Exact product, boat/seats and complete passenger count.
- Departure locality, check-in, dock departure and return.
- Base amount and the people it covers.
- Confirmed extras, payment method, gratuity and balance timing.
- Guest cancellation, captain cancellation and rescheduling terms.
- Every unanswered cost clearly marked “confirm”.

Sources, dates and editorial notes
This guide uses official public sources and editorial planning suggestions. Source-check dates are separate from article publication dates. It is not firsthand reporting, named expert review, a current bite report or individual legal or medical advice. Check the current rules, forecasts and operator’s terms for your trip.
- AfishinadoVB: Fishing Charter Rates
Checked . Source publication date not stated. Operator-specific shared/private formats, quoted inclusions, passenger allowances, packing and cancellation policy; not independent credential verification.
- Marcia B Sportfishing: Charter Rates
Checked . Source publication date not stated. Group includes anglers and observers; payment additions, gratuity and requested packing are operator-specific, subject to current written quote.
- E-Fishinsea: Trips And Rates
Checked . Source publication date not stated. Private boat versus seat unit and dock-to-dock durations. Conflicting card-fee statements are deliberately not resolved.
